I recently posted some articles on my Substack in which I explain a falling out I have had with a predatory Iboga shaman that I was recommending to people (and whom I even lived with for a month), as well as an LCSW therapist named Sonia, who I was referring people to for iboga ceremonies in USA. I still think Sonia is good at heart, but she has lost her mind, and I’m not sure why.
I highly recommend you check these articles out to immunize yourself against counselors and shamans in general. Yes, there can be some good ones, but this field is full of landmines. It helps to familiarize yourself with examples of people not to trust, although you can never be fully safe, since people change (like Sonia), and people claim to change (like Sidney, the shaman).
As with anything in life, we need to take precautions and test the waters carefully. I personally believe that a lot of us can be more effective healing ourselves than relying on someone else for healing, if we have proper guidance and a basic level of honesty, intelligence and caution. Always seek second, third, and fourth opinions. Don’t get stuck in an echo chamber. Believe in yourself.
Much love,
bogaQueen
